   Scholarships
 

These scholarships are for students pursuing a degree in the sciences. The Scholarships are divided into the following categories:

Career Based Scholarships

Bernarr J. Hall Scholarship
For careers planned in California agriculture. Requirements: Student must be a junior or senior the year they receive the scholarship.  Junior recipients may re-apply for senior year. Preference given to students from San Diego County, CA. Min. GPA 3.2.

Winslow Award

1. Students must be undergraduate students who will pursue careers in veterinary medicine or agricultural science.

2. Recipients must be permanent residents of Riverside or San Bernardino Counties.

3. Transfer students from local community colleges should be given strong preference.

4. Financial need must be a primary factor in selection.

5. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. 

6. Students may be full-time or part-time, but students must be taking enough units to be considered at least 50% of full-time.

7. Students who were previously awarded a Community Foundation scholarship should be given preference.

Research Based Scholarships

Note:  The CNAS Scholarship Application requires two letters of recommendation.  For the King and Hasegawa awards, one of the letters should be from a faculty mentor who has evaluated the research proposal, speaks to the academic and other qualifications of the student, and states the willingness to supervise the research and provide needed space, equipment, and supplies. 

Dana King Scholarship
For undergraduate students engaged in research contributing to the advancement of agriculture. A research proposal is required, as outlined on the application.

Dean's Fellowship
For research in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Sophomores and Juniors with a major in CNAS, a min. GPA of 2.0, and a strong interest in a research career are encouraged to apply for the Dean’s Fellowship. The Dean’s Fellowship award amount is $3,000. Each faculty member will receive $300 to be used for supplies and expenses. It is a 10-week summer program which will start June 22, 2009 and run through August 28, 2009. Students are expected to work 40 hours/week on their projects. Students will also meet weekly with the Dean and fellow award recipients to discuss and share their research. Tashiaki Hasegwa Scholarship
For research in agriculture. Requirements: Student must be a junior or senior whose last quarter is not Spring of 2009.

Completed Original Research for Undergraduates and Graduates

James and Margaret Lesley Annual Prize
For research in biological or agricultural science.

James and Adeline Wallace Prize
For research related to citrus or other plant pathology problems.

Scholarships to Assist Students in the Sciences

The 2009 Pearson Biology Prize Scholarship

Write a letter to an elected official while applying for the 2009 Pearson Biology Prize. Pearson will award five students a $500 scholarship toward their continued education in Biology. Charles Coggins Jr. Scholarship Fund            

For the benefit and support of graduate students in CNAS who demonstrate academic excellence, quality research, and benefit to the citrus industry. Deadline: October 23, 2009. Click here to download the Scholarship Application.

Herbert Kraft Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for students in the field of agriculture
Requirement: must be a California High School graduate and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

Homer and Daisy Chapman Endowed Scholarship in Citrus/Soil and Plant Nutrition Research
Assists undergraduates and graduates wishing to pursue studies in citrus research as well as soil and plant nutrition (preference given to citrus research).

Janet M. Boyce Memorial Scholarship
Support for women undergraduate and graduate students in the sciences.

Karin Moore-Gandolfo Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry
Support for Undergraduate Chemistry Majors. Preference given to female students.

Mark and Eve Schroeder Endowed Student Award
To provide financial assistance for undergraduate students majoring in environmental science, earth science, or a related field in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences .Preference will be given to students with a research interest involving fire science, but applicants with other research interests will also be considered
